    Dragonfly Forest Blog Olympic Games!

This Tuesday was SO MUCH FUN!! Unfortunately, it was our last week for this session, but we sure did go out with a bang!

The choices for this weeks groups were: olympic games, making treasures and trophies for those in the olympic games, and dance party group!

Olympic games group was absolutely filled to the brim with energy!! The kids were outside sprinting around for as long as they could being GREAT athletes in the olympic games!! There were team based games mostly so the kids had to rely and trust each other; they did very well! Seeing them work together with determination was so fantastic. It got a little rainy at times so they had to come in, but when they did they were not short on things to do because of the awesome dance party group.

Dance parties are super fun no matter where you go! And at The Spectrum, it gets even better! The kids not only nicely took turns in choosing the songs to play on the projector, but they got to dress up in costumes while they danced! And dance they did... We also discovered lots of wonderful singing talent! These kids rocked the house with their amazing energy!

The craft group was extra special this week because instead of exclusively making things for themselves, the kids made cool awards for the kids participating in the olympic games! This was a very nice thing for them to do. The intensity and focus in the craft room was amazing! The kids were all managing to have really fun conversations with each other and the interns, and also use all that creativity to churn out some really cool things!!

A huge thank you to all the parents, caregivers, one-on-one's, supporters, interns, friends, families and most importantly, the kids, for making this spring such a fantastic time for everybody involved. It has really been fun for all of us, and it was so amazing to see the kids coming out of their shells and having a really good time each week. We are all very proud of them and really appreciate the time we got to spend with them. So thank you again for that opportunity that you helped us achieve!

We hope to see you all this summer for our summer program, but if we don't see you, have a great summer and hopefully we'll catch you in the fall  :)

    Hello friends!

We hate to see this session come to an end but don't be sad! Check out these pictures from camp. We had so much fun playing outside, making arts and crafts that we often used in activities, creating alter egos to help with scavenger hunts, showing off our trivia expertise, forming friendships, and using our imagination playing games.

Dragonfly Forest Blog PuppetShows and Indoor Games!

It was definitely a fun and improvisational Tuesday at the Spectrum. The rain turned our outdoor fun and games into "indoor" fun and games but all the participants had such a good attitude about it. A class at UNC-Asheville helped with a puppet workshop that included a puppet show and a make your puppet game with fun character development. Here are some pictures of the highlights:

Remember this is our last session (5 rings is the clue for the fun actives to come)! We have had a great time with each of the participants. Thanks for being so awesome!

Dragonfly Forest Blog Board games, Batman, Sonic! Oh my!

Another Tuesday has come and gone with fantastic memories made!

This week at The Spectrum, the kids got to choose between three different groups again: outdoor games, Batman!, and a Sonic the Hedgehog group.

Outdoor games reeled most of the kids in with the simple promise of playing games in the sun (all anyone needs to have fun, really). This group had GREAT stuff planned! The interns put together a huge conglomerate of games, including a big four square, twister in the grass, and the traditional and beloved giant parachute!! The parachute had the kids entertained for most of the day, but once the novelty wore off a little, they had no problem directing their attention to the other games.

Batman group at first had no takers, but after about 10 minutes, Dalton wandered up bravely on his own and asked if he could be the sole member! So him and two other interns had a great time playing Batman themed games, making capes, and having very interesting conversations while watching clips of the games and movies.

The Sonic group was also fairly popular, and had members excitedly talking about their favorite characters and their powers! They got to socialize at a table while coloring Sonic and Tails coloring sheets, and played other similar games! They seemed to have very animated conversations and were very polite to each other. It was nice to see!

This week, we sent home buddy cards with the kids, and hopefully they make some connections outside The Spectrum!

Can't wait to see you all next week for our second to last week of the late spring session.

    Dragonfly Forest Blog Carnival!

We had a very interesting Tuesday this week! A crazy storm put a minor dent in our plans, but not to worry, we got to use one of the theater spaces on campus for a little while.. as they say: the show must go on!! After a while, the group moved outside for more space to play in. There were originally two choices for groups: carnival theater games and art stations. However, none of the kids chose art stations, so we had a nice big group doing carnival games.

In this group, the kids got to dress up in costumes and outfits which they always love, and got to do cool stuff like get their faces painted and play with a huge parachute! They also got to bowl over tons of canned goods, and play cornhole; (they're getting really good!!). It was a little wet outside so things got a little squishy and awesome. Balloons were played with, and frisbees were thrown, until a rousing squirt gun fight brought a standstill to all the other activities! Turns out, squirting people with water is actually the best thing ever.

The kids had a great time, and so did we! Can't wait for another day of springtime fun next week.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Easter weekend!

Dragonfly Forest Blog Welcome spring session camper!

Our wonderful interns came up with themed activities last week that the
kids (as well as our team!) loved. "Outdoor fun day" was one option,
in which we played outside with sidewalk chalk and played frizbee. We
also had "spy hunt," in which we broke off in teams to search for our
hidden objects. Spy masks were also made to help with this task and
stay in character to be the best spy that one can be!

We are looking forward to this afternoon and will be uploading pictures soon to stay tuned!

Dragonfly Forest Blog Field Day and Springy Crafts!

    Hi families!

We had a great time this week at the Spectrum! There was a huge group of kids and you could feel the energy buzzing in the air. This week was a little different - the kids got to choose between two groups instead of three. One group was the Field Day group, and got to go outside and play in the gorgeous weather, and the other group was the springtime crafts group and got to stay inside and make cool and colorful creations!

The field day group was hugely popular with the beautiful weather, and about three quarters of the kids went outside with the interns for this one. They got to play foursquare, get their faces painted, play cornhole, tag, play with balloons, play with chalk, and just run around and enjoy the day! There was constant laughter in the air, and it was evident everyone was having a really good time.

The springtime craft group that stayed inside still had a lot of fun! There was only about 5 or 6 of the kids, but they managed to get the most out of it and sang a lot of cool songs and had really funny and interesting conversations! There are some really creative minds in this group of kids, and it is always so amazing to see them in conversation because you never know what they are going to say next! Some of them drew some really cool things; there are some creative and talented kids in this group!

As always, thank you all for your continued support of the program and of the kids. We always have such a great time together!

    See y'all next Tuesday!
